What the Price Covers
The $155 covers transport and guiding only. Read the table before you budget, because the two headline costs on this day sit outside the tour price.
Included
The listing includes vehicle service for the whole itinerary, fuel, toll fees and highway charges, professional guide service, and up to 10 hours of vehicle service in line with Japanese law. The vehicle type depends on group size: 5-8 seats in a Toyota Alphard or similar, 9-14 seats in a Toyota Hiace or similar, an 18-22 seat mini bus, or a large bus of 22 or more seats. The shuttle transfer from Taisho Roman-kan to Ginzan Onsen is listed in the itinerary. Infants aged 0-2 ride free on an adult's lap with advance notice.
Guiding is in Chinese or Japanese only. There is no English-speaking guide, and the coach guide may use a translation device to handle the mix of languages on board.
- Vehicle for the full itinerary
- Fuel, tolls and highway charges
- Professional guide service (Chinese, Japanese)
- Shuttle transfer from Taisho Roman-kan to Ginzan Onsen
- Infants 0-2 free on a lap with advance notice
Not Included
The excluded items are meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), optional activities, personal expenses, luggage service and the fox village admission. The admission is a reference $9.54 (¥1,500) for adults, junior high age and up, and free for elementary school children and younger. The optional 50-minute lunch at Tsurigane-an in Shiroishi is at your own expense.
The Listing Contradicts Itself
The Includes block lists meals among the inclusions and then again among the exclusions, which cannot both be true. Every other part of the listing, including the stop description that marks lunch as at own expense, points to meals not being included. Confirm on the booking page before you pay, and budget for lunch either way.

Book It If, Skip It If
Book it if
- you want 100 minutes at the fox village and 1.5 hours in Ginzan Onsen in one 10-hour day for $155
- you travel with an infant aged 0-2, who rides free on a lap with advance notice
- hotel pickup near JR Sendai Station with a small group of 1-13 guests suits you
Skip it if
- you need an English-speaking guide, as guiding here is in Chinese or Japanese only
- you want a longer soak or more Ginzan time, when the Ginzan Onsen, Zao Ropeway and Okama Crater Tour includes lunch and the ropeway ticket instead
- you need a tour with lunch built in, since this day leaves the $9.54 (¥1,500) fox admission and all meals to you
Pros and Cons
An honest read of this listing, including the points the sales copy leaves out.
What we genuinely like
- Two headline stops plus Shiroishi in one 10-hour day, leaving no transport puzzle for you to solve
- Hotel pickup near JR Sendai Station, with drop-off at your accommodation at the end
- Small-group format of 1-13 guests when numbers allow
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance, and reserve now, pay later
- The itinerary includes the shuttle transfer from Taisho Roman-kan
The honest downsides
- Guiding is in Chinese or Japanese only, and the coach guide may rely on a translation device, so English speakers get little narration
- Fox village admission of $9.54 (¥1,500) and all meals are extra, on top of the $155
- The Includes list contradicts itself on meals, so confirm on the booking page
- The tour needs a minimum of 4 people and can be cancelled if numbers fall short
- Only 90 minutes in Ginzan Onsen, not enough for a long soak
Who it's NOT for: Travellers who want an English-speaking guide or a longer soak should book the Ginzan Onsen, Zao Ropeway and Okama Crater Tour instead, which includes lunch and the ropeway ticket.
Before You Go
A few practical points make the difference between a smooth day and a cold, cash-short one.
Season and Winter
The listing states no season limits. In winter, snow blankets the streets of Ginzan Onsen, which is the town at its most atmospheric. The town's vehicle restriction runs 19 December to 7 March, and the itinerary lists a shuttle transfer from Taisho Roman-kan.
Wear warm layers and shoes with grip.
Cash and Lunch
Bring cash. The fox village admission of $9.54 (¥1,500) for junior high age and up is paid separately. Lunch is not included.
Either join the optional 50-minute Shiroishi Umen stop at Tsurigane-an at your own expense, or eat at the street food stalls and soba shops in Ginzan Onsen.
Meeting Point and What to Bring
Meet at Sendai Station East Exit, across from the sightseeing bus parking lot, in front of Lotteria, by 08:30. Bring comfortable shoes, comfortable clothes and cash. Luggage is not recommended on this day tour, and if you plan to bring multiple pieces you must check availability in advance.
Stairs are not a stated feature of this route, but the fox village is set in woodland and Ginzan's street can be snowy.
Age, Accessibility and After the Tour
No minimum age is stated, and infants aged 0-2 join free on an adult's lap with advance notice. No wheelchair access is stated. Avoid booking same-day flights or Shinkansen trains after the tour, since the 18:00 return can shift with traffic.
If the itinerary cannot run because of severe weather or government regulation, the operator offers no compensation for losses but allows a full refund on cancellation.

How the Tour Runs
The listing gives a timed plan from the 08:30 meet to the 18:00 return, and it warns that traffic or crowds may force the guide to adjust it. The times below are the stated schedule, not guarantees.
Meeting Point and Departure
Meet at Sendai Station East Exit, across from the sightseeing bus parking lot, in front of Lotteria. Travellers with hotel pickup are collected at eligible hotels near JR Sendai Station, with options shown at booking. Departure is 08:30, and the fox village stop is listed from 09:50.
The Stops in Order
The coach reaches Miyagi Zao Fox Village at 09:50 for free exploration. The stop list says 100 minutes while the written schedule says about 40 minutes. At 11:00 the tour moves to Tsurigane-an at 46 Motomachi, Shiroishi, for the optional 50-minute Shiroishi Umen lunch.
At 14:00 the group arrives in Yamagata for Ginzan Onsen, transferring by shuttle from Taisho Roman-kan, with about 90 minutes in the town. The return drive is stated as approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, arriving at JR Sendai Station at 18:00, with hotel drop-off for those using pickup.

Fox Village Hours, Fee and Rules
The village sets its own hours and rules, and two of them directly affect this tour: the Wednesday closure and the winter afternoon closing time.
Admission, Paid at the Gate
Admission is $9.54 (¥1,500) for adults, meaning junior high school age and up. Elementary school children and younger enter free, but one adult may not bring two or more children. This fee is not part of the $155 tour price, so carry cash for it.
Hours and the Wednesday Closure
Winter hours from 15 October run 9:00-16:00 with last entry at 15:30, and may be shortened in bad weather. Summer hours are 9:00-16:30 with last entry at 16:00. The village closes on Wednesdays, except during the May holiday period and Obon, when it opens.
Book this tour on a day that is not a Wednesday.
Rules Inside the Village
Pets and strollers are not allowed, and baby carriers are recommended. Foxes roam freely, so follow park rules carefully. The listing's safety notice says one adult may accompany only one preschool child.
The schedule shows arrival at the village at 09:50.

How Long to Spend at Ginzan Onsen
Visitors put the street itself at about one hour, and two hours if you want a bath. This tour gives about 90 minutes.
What 90 Minutes Covers
Forum visitors report that Ginzan Onsen's single road, with its canal and a short silver mine section, needs about one hour, or two hours if you take a bath. The tour's stated 90 minutes sits between those two, enough for the riverside street and a stop at the free Warashiyu foot bath, which is open 6:00-22:00 year-round in the centre of the onsen street. A bath at the Shirogane-yu public bath costs $3.18 (¥500) for adults, which may squeeze the time you have.
The Shuttle Sets the Pace
The town restricts day-trip vehicles in winter, from 19 December to 7 March, so everyone arrives by the reserved shuttle from Taisho Roman-kan, which this tour uses. Shuttles leave Taisho Roman-kan at :00, :20 and :40, first at 9:00 and last at 18:00, and return from Ginzan Onsen at :10, :30 and :50. If you want more than 90 minutes, a stop at a ryokan bath is the way to extend it.
For a day built around more time in the mountains instead, look at the Ginzan Onsen, Zao Ropeway and Okama Crater Tour.

The Places on This Day Trip
Three stops, two of them the headline draws. Here is what each one offers in the time the tour allows, and what the official sources add.
Miyagi Zao Fox Village, 100 Minutes
A woodland park at Kawarago 11-3, Shiroishi, home to over 100 free-roaming foxes of six species, including Hokkaido red foxes, silver foxes, arctic foxes, platinum foxes and cross foxes. Rabbits, goats and miniature ponies are also kept there. In 100 minutes you can walk the paths, watch the foxes from close range, look for a chance to hold a fox cub, and browse the souvenir shop.
Admission is $9.54 (¥1,500) for junior high age and up, paid separately. The village is closed on Wednesdays except the May holidays and Obon, and pets and strollers are not allowed.
Shiroishi, 50 Minutes for Lunch
The optional stop at Tsurigane-an, 46 Motomachi, is for Shiroishi Umen, a local wheat noodle with over 400 years of history. The noodles are short, oil-free and light. Fifty minutes is enough for a bowl at your own expense.
Travellers who prefer lunch included elsewhere can look at the Ginzan Onsen and Tohoku Highlights Tour, which bundles a Shiroishi Umen lunch into the fare.
Ginzan Onsen, 1.5 Hours
A 500-year-old hot spring town of wooden ryokan along the Ginzan River, lit by gas lamps and often compared to the bathhouse in Spirited Away. In 90 minutes you can walk the street, try the free Warashiyu foot bath, eat tempura soba or street food, and shop. In winter snow covers the street, and the town runs its vehicle restriction from 19 December to 7 March, so day visitors ride only the reserved shuttle from Taisho Roman-kan, which is part of the tour's itinerary.
Doing It on Your Own by Train
On your own, Zao Fox Village has no train station. The fastest rail option is the Tohoku Shinkansen, about 13 minutes from Sendai to Shiroishi-Zao, then about 20 minutes by car. A seasonal loop bus also serves the village, but it does not run on Wednesdays, and village staff arrange a taxi for the return trip. Ginzan Onsen is harder still: you travel via Yamagata and Oishida and finish with a local bus, and in winter, from 19 December to 7 March, day visitors must use the reserved shuttle from Taisho Roman-kan anyway. The Okama crater road closes by snow from early November to late April, so it is out of reach by car in winter.
Combining two of these places in one day without a car is the reason to book a tour like this one, or the very similar Zao Fox Village and Ginzan Onsen Day Tour, which adds Kanahebisui Shrine to the same route. If trains are what you want, a single-destination day such as the Yamadera Private Guided Tour works far better.

Ginzan Onsen From Sendai Without a Tour
It is possible to reach Ginzan Onsen from Sendai on your own. The question is what it costs in time, and what you give up.
The Bus Route
A highway bus from Sendai to Obanazawa, then a local bus, takes about 2 hours 10 minutes each way. That is most of a day spent travelling for one stop, before you add the winter shuttle rule, under which day visitors ride only the reserved shuttle from Taisho Roman-kan between 19 December and 7 March. Walking from Taisho Roman-kan is forbidden in that period.
The JR Route
By rail you ride the JR line to Oishida and finish with a local bus, taking about 2 hours 40 minutes each way. You can break the journey in Yamagata, but a same-day return leaves little time in the town itself. On your own, a single-focus day such as Yamadera and Ginzan Onsen Full-Day Tour or a train-based trip is easier to shape.
When the Tour Wins
This departure does three stops in one 10-hour day: 100 minutes at the fox village, an optional noodle lunch in Shiroishi, and 90 minutes in Ginzan Onsen, all door to door from Sendai Station or your hotel. Doing that combination independently by public transport in one day is close to impossible. The trade is that the guiding is in Chinese or Japanese, and the admission fee and lunch sit on top of the $155.

Questions About This Tour
Is Zao Fox Village worth visiting?
If free-roaming foxes interest you, yes. The village holds over 100 foxes of six species in woodland, and this tour gives 100 minutes there, enough to walk the paths and see the animals without rushing. Admission of $9.54 (¥1,500) for junior high and up is extra. The village closes on Wednesdays, so plan around that. Details on the official village site.
Is it worth going to Ginzan Onsen?
The gas-lit street of wooden ryokan along the river is one of the most distinctive townscapes in Tohoku, and in winter the snow makes it striking. Ninety minutes, as this tour allows, covers the street and the free foot bath, though not a long bath. Visitors put the street at about one hour, or two with a bath, per the Japan Guide forum.
Is Zao Fox Village ethical?
The animals roam freely in a woodland park, and the village sets rules for visitor behaviour. The operator lists no ethical certification for this tour. Read the park rules on the official site and decide for yourself.
How long should I spend in Ginzan Onsen?
About one hour for the single street and its short silver mine section, or two hours if you take a bath. This tour gives about 90 minutes, which covers the street and the free Warashiyu foot bath. The town restricts day visitors to its shuttle in winter, from 19 December to 7 March, per the Ginzan Onsen Association.
What is not included in the $155 price?
The fox village admission, breakfast, lunch and dinner, optional activities, personal expenses and luggage service are all excluded. The optional lunch at Tsurigane-an in Shiroishi is paid at the restaurant. The breakdown is in what the price covers, and the full terms are on the booking page.
Where does the tour start and what time?
It departs at 08:30 from Sendai Station East Exit, across from the sightseeing bus parking lot, in front of Lotteria. Pickup at eligible hotels near JR Sendai Station is available, with options shown at booking. The return is around 18:00 at JR Sendai Station. See how the tour runs.
What language is the guiding in?
Chinese or Japanese. Because of the international mix of travellers on this route, the guide on the coach may rely on a translation device, so expect limited narrative depth in any language. If you need an English-first day, compare other day trips from Sendai.
